Thanks for visiting For the Love of Cabbage! I’m Ali, a sheila from Brooklyn, New York. I started this blog while living in Australia as a way to stay in touch with my family and friends from all around the globe. As of April 15th 2014, the this blog will be written from my native land of Brooklyn, but I will always find a way to fit that ear piercing Australian Jargon in there.

Most of the time I am cajoling my friends and family to eat like the Jewish Italian that I am (even my cat gets the good stuff– he get’s the best stuff actually. He is on a raw food diet. Cat Lady much?)  working with food and beautiful props as a food stylist, , eating, or thinking about my next meal. So I thought this would be a great way to stay in touch. This blog has morphed into something  bit more than just chatter about food, and I’m just rolling with it.

A few tidbits about this blog and “my style”:

  • You will find a whole foods approach to cooking here. I don’t do low fat versions of products, and I mostly stay away from anything processed. I don’t restrict my diet in any way, but I like to get as much nutrition as I can out of a dish, even if it is a dessert. I experiment with lots of different grains and flours, and I love vegetarian cooking. So, while you will find meat, white flour, and sometimes refined sugar in my recipes, you’ll also find a lot of gluten-free, vegetarian, sugar-free, and dairy free recipes.
  • I’ve always used recipes as a base, and then veered my own way. While I have developed and tested my recipes to suit those who like to work with a recipe, unless it’s baking, most recipes won’t suffer if you just “eyeball” the ingredients, and have fun with it.
  • I’m pretty addicted to fermenting and pickling, so you will see a lot of fermentation projects throughout the growth of this blog, including sauerkraut, yogurt, kombucha, kombucha-kefir, kimchi, the list goes on….
  • I genuinely believe in using “happy meat” and eggs, and encourage my readers to do the same when possible.

For my lovely friends and family who have been such a great support to me despite my jet setting, and followed my blog (Grandma and Kristi–you two are in touch for top commenter….), thank you!

Buon Appetito!

    Hi there,

I am desperately trying to source a kamboocha tea starter kit. I read your blog and was hoping you could help me?

    Thanks so much
